Visiting UAPB Tomorrow & Admissions Update

I will be at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff tomorrow recruiting at their Career Fair. I am leaving this afternoon since it's a bit of a drive.

Next Tuesday, the 13th, I will be in Kansas City at an MBA America Tour Event. Visit www.mbaamericatour.com for details and to register.

It's been awhile since my last post. The GSB has been so incredibly busy. We just sent offer letters to our largest Master of Accountancy (MAcc) class yet. Over 100 applications were received and 60 students received offers. This program is 2 semesters and 30 hours. To learn more, visit http://gsb.uark.edu/macc.asp. We are no longer accepting applications for the MAcc.

April 1 was the deadline for our part-time MBA (MMBA) and the early decision deadline for our full-time MBA. So far, we have received a total of 110 MBA apps, compared to 157 last year total (through December and it's just now April). We do anticipate awarding all of our funding at this first admissions committee meeting.

MMBA applications will be accepted through the summer as space allows. Class size for this program is 60. You can email gsb@walton.uark.edu to get updates pertaining to space availability.

Final application deadline for the MBA is September 15. We have always accepted late applications for this program, typically through November. It is too soon to tell if we will have seats left after the September 15 deadline.

Keep in mind, that whereas applications are up this year, our funding opportunities are not. This is frustrating for you and us. For instance, in the MBA we still will have only 15 full GA's - tuition is waived and a stipend of $2500 each semester is provided. Our class size is currently mid-30's and we could conceivably be 40-45 next year. For the class that began in January of this year, we received a 62% increase in applications over the year before. The number of GA's we have stayed the same. So, we can increase our class size, we cannot increase the number of students who will receive funding.

I want to point out that a large percentage of students in the MBA do receive waived tuition. If we enroll 40 students next year and if 15 receive a full GA, that is nearly 38%. Not bad odds. If a student pays in-state tuition for the 3 semester program, tuition and fees are approximately $23,000. The Walton MBA is a wise investment with a competitive sticker price.
