Day 1 of MMBA Orientation

MMBA Orientation began today and will go through Sunday. We have a great group of students but I may be a little biased since I recruited them. 56 new students will begin their MBA this semester. Here is a little more about them. They average 7 years of work experience and their average age is 30. 23 do not have a background in business.

Undergraduate degrees were attained from here (UofA), UT-Arlington, Depauw, Texas-Pan America, Texas A&M, Kansas, Tennessee, BYU, Mizzou, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, New Mexico, Miami University, Indiana State, Florida, Washington, West Point, and James Madison just to name a few.

They represent the following companies: Walmart, JB Hunt, Tyson, Pfizer, Bayer, Unilever, Scotts Miracle Gro, ConAgra, IBM, Dr. Pepper/Snapple, P&G, Nestle Purina, Lance, and many more.

Here is the schedule for today:

7:45 - breakfast
8:15 - welcome from Senior Associate Dean, Bill Curington, MBA Director, Dr. Alan Ellstrand, and Assistant Dean Marion Dunagan.
8:30 - icebreaker
10:00 - break
10:15 - Program Overview - Dr. Alan Ellstrand
11:00 - Orientation to online learning
11:45 - lunch with MMBA alumni panel
1:30 - technology training and laptop setup
2:30 - ISIS (UofA's student information system) training
2:45 - break
3:00 - Lecture - Introduction to the Value Chain (Dr. Ellstrand teaches a Value Chain course during Orientation that is worth 2 credit hours)
5:00 - dismissal

Tomorrow will begin at 7:30 with breakfast. Come back then for more details about day 2.
